The Healthy Reefs Initiative strategic objectives are to: Promote the application of Healthy Reefs Indicators by managers, policy makers and other leaders concerned with the integrity of the SAM Provide standardized analyses of reliable scientific data to improve reef ecosystem management Serve as an open forum for information sharing and networking among science and conservation partners

Specifically, we produce a Biennial report card, which effectively grades the Health of the Mesoamerican reef using a concise 5-point ranking system. The first report card was produced in 2008, followed closely by the 2010 Report Card for the Mesoamerican Reef.

Healthy Reefs is currently working with World Resources Institute (WRI) and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) on creating the first Biennial Eco-Audit.  This working document fosters the adoption of regionally established policies and legislations, and then scores the four countries on their effective application of these efforts.
